What Are Tongue Ties & Lip Ties?
A frenotomy of frenectomy is a process that consists of releasing the frenum under the tongue or upper lip to enable for greater freedom of motion. Children may be born with a variation of disorders including a tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) and/or a lip-tie. These conditions limit movement and can cause difficulty with breastfeeding, dental decay, speech, digestive issues, and more. Luckily, tongue ties and lip ties can easily be corrected with a simple procedure done at a dental office in Lexington, KY.

Tongue Ties & Lip Ties
Laser Treatment
Our skilled and board-certified dentists at Park Hills Family Dentistry always provide gentle tongue tie and lip tie treatments. This procedure is quick and easy, so you will have nothing to worry about. The procedure is called frenectomy and it replaces or eliminates the irregular frenulum. The procedure is worth considering when tongue ties or lip ties are affecting the movement or causing discomfort.
In order to eliminate tongue ties and lip ties, your Lexington, KY dentist will remove the frenum by making a small incision or by using a gentle laser. This reduces recovery time and complications. For optimal treatment and recovery, contact Park Hills Family Dentistry for a consultation.
Post Procedure
Recovery time is minimal for this treatment. This can usually take up to two to five days, but keep in mind that everyone is different. After the procedure, Dr. Jinyoung Kim will recommend post-procedure instructions. It may take some time to retrain the tongue since it has more freedom to move. Be sure to follow all the directions recommended by the doctor and contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
